Discipleship Two

(ONEdisciplingONE)

This course is the follow-up course to Discipleship One and requires the successful completion of that course as a prerequisite for taking this course.  If you have not yet taken, and passed, the Discipleship One course then you will not be allowed to take this course until you do so.

This course is to be carried out under the local church where you are a member.  Therefore, you must have permission from your pastor to be a discipler or, as it is called in the Guide, a Role Model.

In the completion of this course, you will have discipled at least one other person whom God has put in your path.  The first person you should disciple is preferably the person that you led to the Lord during your Salvation course.  However, if that person doesn't want to be discipled, then you may choose someone else or you can ask your pastor for a suggestion of a candidate to be discipled.  He may have a new convert that he would like to entrust to your care.

NOTE: You may take this course up to four times for credit.  However, you can only disciple one person at a time during each 12 week period of attendance for credit.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • SIGN-IN first for this course and mark the form "Begin" unless you have done so previously.  You do not sign in when you finish each lesson.  You only do so and mark the form "Finish" when you have completed the entire course and you are ready for the Final Test.

  • Download and print the COURSE RECORD FORM.  On it you will keep a record of your sign in "Begin" date because you will be required to enter it on the Sign In "Finish" form that you will submit at the end of the entire course.  You will also keep other pertinent information on that form such as date and score for each test so that you will be able to keep track of your progress through the course.

  • Pastor's permission form: Before you disciple someone you must have the permission of your/their pastor.  Show your pastor the material you are going to use to disciple the person, including the Milk of the Word and the Discipler's Guide, and let him know you have already gone through the program in the Milk of the Word and also let him know you are completely familiar with the material in the Discipler's Guide- familiar enough with it to know how to properly use it.  If he agrees you can disciple the person, then have him use the Pastor Ministry Confirmation form that he can submit online.  Under "Ministries" have him input: "Permission for student to disciple [name of person you are going to disciple]."
The person you are discipling should be a member of the church where you are a member.  If they are not a member of your church, then you will need your pastor's permission to disciple them and you will need the permission of their pastor for them to be discipled by you.  In that case, a Pastor Ministry Confirmation form is needed from your pastor for you stating you have "Permission to disciple [name of the other person]" and one from their pastor stating they "[Name of person you are going to disciple] has permission to be discipled by [your name]."  This is assuming they are a member of some church.  If they are not a member of any church, then you will only need your pastor's permission for you to disciple them. Make sure the pastors submit your name as the name of the student and the name of the one you are going to disciple in the "Ministries" box.
Your pastor knows if you are mature enough to disciple someone else.  The decision is up to them.  Do not be angry with them if they refuse to give you their permission.  If they say, "No," then realize they are doing it for your own good and for the good of the one you wish to disciple.  Should your pastor say no, then ask him when he thinks you will be ready to disciple someone.  Maybe he can give you some material to help you mature to the point you need to be to properly and biblically disciple someone else.  Discuss it with your pastor in a non-confrontational manner and remember that God says they must give an answer for your soul.  In other words your pastor is responsible to God for your growth toward maturity; and if they don't believe you are ready to take on the job and responsibility of discipling someone, then gracefully bow to their leadership and authority.  In no way be rebellious or resentful concerning their decision.  Simply appreciate their love and care for you and respect their authority in this matter.  If they, and the pastor of the person you wish to disciple should they be a member of another church, agree, then you may begin this course starting on the day that the Pastor Ministry Confirmation forms are submitted by them.  Find out the date they submitted the forms because your attendance in this course officially starts on the day both forms are submitted to us.

  • Read & Study the entire textbook, Discipler's Guide, by Dr. James Wilkins, before you start discipling someone.  (You will find the link at the end of the instructions.)

  • Download and print a copy of "The Milk of the Word" from our library for the new convert or, if you prefer, you can order a copy of it from Dr. James Wilkins at leatherman_wave@yahoo.com or phone: (505) 747-6917.  If you order hard-copies, please indicate that you are a student of Salt Lake Bible College or Salt Lake Baptist College at the time of your order.

  • Complete all of the exercises as you take the new convert/disciple through their Milk of the Word discipleship book and do so according to the time-table required in the textbook.

  • Attendance:  The Milk of the Word textbook that the new convert will study under your direction is divided into ten sections plus the preliminary material.  The preliminary material, which you will take them through when you first give them their book, is considered one lesson and your preparation, which is a complete reading and study of your Guide and spiritually readying yourself prior to discipling them, is also considered one lesson.
Course attendance will be 12 weeks plus as many extra weeks as may be needed should your disciple not finish their work or if they skipped a week and then continued with their book.
Because the new convert needs to stay on a weekly schedule with their lessons in The Milk of The Word, then you will need to stay on the exact same weekly schedule as you meet with them weekly to discuss the lessons.  Therefore, this course requires an exact
course attendance in contrast to other courses which only have a minimum course attendance.
Lesson attendance will be 1 week per lesson.

  • Weekly reports:
    1. Each week you will file a report on the progress of the disciple.  You can do so through the following link: Disciple Progress Report.  If possible, file that report on the same day each week that you meet with the disciple or on the day after.  The reason for this is so that your memory of the study time with them will be fresh in your memory.  If you must wait a couple of days, then write down the info required and then submit it via the form when you can go online to do so.
    2. These reports can be submitted even over the weekend when the college offices are closed.  Filing of the reports here at the college is done automatically and they are then reviewed by the staff during regular college office hours.  If you do file over the weekend, don't expect an answer to any of your questions on the form until some time during regular office hours, Monday through Friday.
    3. If your disciple skips a week and you are not going to meet with them until the following week, simply file a regular report for that week and in it state that they skipped that week and that you have contacted them at church or by phone to encourage them and reassure them that you will gladly continue their discipling the next week.

  • Credits: You will earn 2 credits for successfully completing this course with a passing grade.

  • You may take this course up to four times for a total of 8 credits.

  • Additional Credits:
If the person you disciple goes on to disciple someone else after they have completed the course themselves, then you will receive 1 additional credit when they finish this course with a passing grade.  Your responsibility will be to take them through the Discipler's Guide before they begin discipling the other person and then track their progress as they disciple that person.
    1. You will need to submit a Weekly Disciplers Report form to notify me that they are discipling someone else and that they were originally your disciple.
    2. You will need to personally keep track of their progress as a discipler and send weekly reports on their progress.  This will be accomplished via the form Weekly Disciplers Report.  You must send this in each week.
    3. Send a final Weekly Disciplers Report to me when they have finished this Discipleship II course, which will be when they have successfully finished taking their disciple through the Milk of the Word book, and in the comments section request your 1 credit.  I will then check to see if they have passed the course and I will also check to see that you have sent in your weekly reports on their progress. If everything is in order you will be informed and 1 credit will be added to your file.

  • FINAL TEST
Once you have completed all sections of the textbook for this course and passed any required tests and submitted all required forms, and found the correct answers to any questions missed on any test, then you may Retrieve the Password and, upon receiving the Password, take the Final Test for the course.
Once you pass the final test do not take it again.
If you fail the final test then you need to restudy both the textbook and any section tests and then retake the final test on or after the next day. Repeat this process until you pass the Final Test.
    - If you miss any questions on the Final Test, even though you received a passing grade, then you need to review the textbook and all of the section tests and find the correct answers in the textbook to the questions you missed on it.
