III. Salvation
How do we get it and what are the benefits of it?

Salvation comes from God alone!

Psalm 3:8
"Salvation belongeth unto the LORD ..."

- PART ONE -
SALVATION- HOW DO WE GET IT?

A.
Not by our works. (Eph 2:8-9)
    1.
God gave us Salvation by mercy and grace.
Eph 2:8 "For by ______ are ye saved through ______; and that
not of yourselves: it is the _____ of God:"
    2.
Not by our works.
Eph 2:9 "____ of works, lest any man should boast."
    3.
Because grace and works are mutually exclusive.
If it is by one then it cannot be mixed with the other; i.e., if you mix works
with grace, then grace is no longer grace.  And the contrary is also true.
        Rom 11:6 "And if __  ______, then is it ___  ______  ___  _______:
otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no
            more
grace: otherwise work is no more work."
Rom 3:20 "Therefore by the _____ of the law there shall no flesh be
justified in his sight: for by the law
is the knowledge of sin."
    4.  Therefore, we must conclude that we can not get Salvation by any works
        that we can perform.

B.  Not by our Baptism.
    1.  The thief on the cross was not Baptized and yet he was saved.
Luk 23:43 "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee,
To day shalt thou ___  ____ ___ in paradise."
    2.
Baptism is a work that we do ourselves and, thus, it cannot save us.

Eph 2:9 "____ of works, lest any man should boast."

    3.  Verses that seem to suggest this are clarified by God.

The main verse that is quoted is:
Mar 16:15 "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world,
and preach the gospel to every creature."

       Mar 16:16 "He that _________ and is _________ shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall be damned."

This is not talking about water baptism but rather it is talking about
one of the other various baptisms with which the believer is baptized.
            Such as:
        a.  Baptism into the body of Christ.

I Cor 12:12 "For as the body is one, and hath many members, and
all the members of that one body, being many, are one body:
                so also is Christ."

I Cor 12:13 "For by one Spirit are we all __________into one body,
                whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free;
and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."
Gal 3:27 "For as many of you as have been _________  ___  ______
                have put on Christ."

b.
Baptism into Christ and into His death.
(This is actually part of the previous baptism- Baptism into the body of Christ).
Rom 6:3 "Know ye not, that so many of us as were __________ into
Jesus Christ were baptized into his ______?"
        c.  Baptism with the Holy Ghost.
Act 11:15 "And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost _____  __  _____,
as on us at the beginning."
Act 11:16 "Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said,
John indeed ________ with ______; but ye shall be __________
                    with the _____  _____."

  d.
  Baptism of repentance.
Luke 3:3 "And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching
the _________ of __________ for the remission of sins;"
        e.
Summary.

God is very careful to clarify the verse, Mar 16:16, that we originally mentioned.

        Mar 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth ___ shall be damned."

Because of the careful wording, we can easily understand that although one of the
baptisms is mentioned, all of which happen now at Salvation, the only thing that can
bring condemnation is if we believe NOT.  Baptism, (whichever one that is meant here)
or rather the lack of it, is not denoted as bringing condemnation.  That is reserved for
"not" believing.  Is baptism put forth here as a desirable thing?  Absolutely!  But, it is
differentiated from believing, thus leaving "not" believing as the sole thing that can bring
            forth damnation.
    4.  Another verse that seems to teach Baptism as part of Salvation but does not actually do so.
Act 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be _________ every one of
you in the name of Jesus Christ ___ the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

"for" Gk eiV, ice or ayss,  def. into, as far as, to the extent of, or in the presence of

Since a causative connection between baptism and salvation (remission of sins)
is not taught anywhere else in the Bible, then to take this one scripture and make it
teach that precept is to do violence to the scriptures.  To prevent doing such violence
one must accept the meaning of the word
eiV, (for), as being the latter in the list of
definitions above.  That is, here we must take
eiV, to mean "in the presence of."
This is in complete accord with other usage of
eiV, as in Acts 22:30 and other
passages of Scripture where the word is used with the meaning of "in the presence."
Act 22:30 "On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty
wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from
his bands,
and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and
brought Paul down, and set him ______ (
eiV, in the presence of) them."
    5.
  Diametrically opposed.
Contrary to the belief that baptism is part of Salvation, God specifically tells us
through Philip that baptism can only be administered AFTER salvation and not before
it nor as part of it.  He shows us that the proper order is Salvation then baptism.

Act 8:36 "And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water:
and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth _________  ___ to
                be baptized?"
Act 8:37 "And Philip said, __ thou ________ with all thine heart, thou mayest.
And he answered and said, _  _______ that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
Act 8:38 "And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down
both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he ___________ him."

C.
How do we obtain God's Salvation gift.
    1.  Repent of our sins in sorrow.

II Cor 7:9 "Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye _________
to ___________: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye
might receive damage by us in nothing."

II Cor 7:10 "For godly sorrow _________ repentance to __________ not to be
repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."
    2.
Ask for God's Salvation by faith, believing on Jesus and accepting Him as Saviour.

        Rom 10:11
"For the scripture saith, Whosoever __________ on him shall
            not be ashamed.
"
        Rom 10:12
"For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the
same Lord over all is rich unto all that _____  ____ him."

        Rom 10:13
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
            shall be ________.
Act 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other
name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be _______."

    3.
Accept God's gift of Salvation by His grace through faith alone and add no works to it.
Eph 2:8 "For by ______ are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the _____ of God:"
Eph 2:9 "____ of works, lest any man should boast."
        Rom 11:6 "And if __  ______, then is it ___  ______  ___  _______:
otherwise grace is __  _____ grace.  But if it be of works, then is it
            no more
grace: otherwise work is no more work."

        I Jn 4:14
"And we have seen and do testify that the ________ sent
                the ____
to be
the _________ of the world."

D.  Summary- God's simple three-step plan.
   1.  Repent of our sin in sorrow and admit to God we
are a sinner in need of His Salvation.
   2.  Ask for God's Salvation by faith, believing on Jesus
        and accepting Him as Saviour.
   3.  Tell God you accept His gift of Salvation by His
grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone and add
        no works to it.

There are a multitude more benefits of God's Salvation.  We have
studied just a few of them. I pray that you continue your study
of God's Word so you can discover more of them.

We have seen that the only way to receive God's Salvation is to
accept Christ as your Saviour by grace through faith and to not confuse
the issue by trying to add works, such as Baptism or other good works.

Salvation comes from God alone and
can only be attained by God's plan!
Psa 3:8 "Salvation belongeth unto the LORD ..."
