Friend of God and Father of Faith

James H. Turner

In this course we will follow the life of one of the great men of the Bible, Abraham.  In the Scriptures he is call "the friend of God" and many have called him the "Father of the Faith."  We will trace His life from Ur of the Chaldees on through the 100 years in which God dealt with him all the way until his death in Hebron and his burial in the cave of Machpelah alongside his beloved Sarah.  Along this hundred year path we will study both the victories and the failures of this man whom God's Word called, "the friend of God."  (1 credit)

  • Attendance:
Required minimum Attendance per Lesson is 1 week.

(You may not turn in your first test until on or after the 7th day of the required minimum attendance per lesson.  Your attendance for the next lesson begins the day after you pass the current lesson test. )
Required minimum Attendance for the complete course is 7 weeks.
(The reason for the extra week of Attendance for the course overall is because some lessons will take more than one week.)

  • Student will earn 1 credit for successful completion of the course.

  • Course Record Form:
Please download and print a copy of the Course Record Form on which you are required to keep all pertinent information for this course.  This is required because you will need that information later at the end of this course.

  • Please submit a Begin Sign In form to mark the beginning of your official attendance for this course.

  • TESTING procedure:  Make sure you read the testing instructions if you have not already done so.  All section tests are open book, which means you can use your textbook while taking the test.  The Final Test is a closed book test, which means you can not use your textbook or any other material.  The terms of a closed book test are explained on the Closed Book Test Contract Form which must be submitted prior to taking the Final Test.
If you fail any of the tests you MAY NOT attempt that test again on the same day.  You must restudy the textbook or KJV, whichever is appropriate, and find all of the correct answers to the questions missed and then retake the test no sooner than the next day.
All of the links to the Lesson Tests are in the textbook.

  • FINAL TEST procedure:
    - Once you have completed all sections of the textbook and passed all of the corresponding tests, and found the correct answers to any questions missed on any test, then you will submit a Closed Book Test Contract Form.  After you have done that, then you will retrieve the Password and, upon receiving the Password, take the Final Test for the course.  The Final Test is closed book.
    - Once you pass the final test do not take it again.
If you fail the final test then you need to restudy both the textbook and all of the section tests and then retake the Final Test on or after the next day after you initially failed it. Repeat this process until you pass the Final Test, waiting one day for restudy between retakes.
If you miss any questions on the Final Test, whether you pass it or not, then you need to review the textbook and all of the section tests and find the correct answers to the questions you missed.
Final Test link is in the textbook along with links to all other tests.

  • Access the textbook: Abraham, Friend of God, Father of Faith by James H. Turner.
Look up and read every scripture referenced in the textbook in your KJV.
(Reading the scriptures as they are quoted in the textbook will not fulfill this requirement.  You must look up and read every scripture referenced in the textbook in your KJV.)
