Pastoral Practicum
This
course is designed specifically for those who plan on becoming pastors
of local New Testament Churches. In this course you will gain
practical experience in some of the more common duties of the pastor.
All students are encouraged to take this course; however,
it is not a generally required course. Those not planning on
pastoring do not have to take this course but they may if they want to
do so. All students are encouraged to take it because there may
come a time when their pastor may ask them to help with one of the
ministries of the Church that will require knowledge addressed in this
course. It will be a big help to him to know that you are already
familiar, and practiced, in the various areas addressed in this course.
It also allows members of churches to become familiar with the normal
duties of their pastor which will enable them to more fully appreciate
the many and varied jobs that he carries out in the Church.
Some students may be required to take the course for their
particular course of study even though they may not plan on pastoring a
church. (4.5 credits)
In
this course you will study the following subjects:
-
Weddings
-
Funerals
-
Baptism
-
Ordinations
-
Dedications
-
Parliamentary
rules
-
Other
matters the pastor needs to know.
-
For
this course, student must have access to a baptistery or a body of
water deep enough to completely immerse the person on whom they will
practice the ordinance of baptism. They will also need access
to helpers who are willing to be immersed for baptism practice, as
well as helpers for mock weddings and funerals. If
you are disabled and cannot perform the practice baptisms then you
will be excused from doing that physical part of the course.
However, you must still do the textbook work on baptism and the
reciting out loud of the baptizing phrases so that you will know how
to properly train the helper who will do the actual baptizing for
the church when you become a pastor or you are asked to help or
train others to help in performing baptisms.
-
